MENTAWAIS 2024 – WHAT TO EXPECT FROM AUGUST TO SEPTEMBER

We’re already halfway through the 2024 season, which can be considered one of the best in recent years, with lots of good waves from mid-April to June.

Steady swells and light winds have made for an incredible start to the season.

From good days at Nokandui and Hideaways to epic days at Bankvaults and even some good moments in riffles, one of the most inconsistent waves in the region and at the same time one of the best rights in Indonesia.

From mid-June to July, the waves got a little slower, but still most of the southwest swells and the southeast wind made the lefts work again in good conditions.

After a short break, August and September will bring bigger waves and light winds back to the region.

A strong south swell is expected to arrive at the beginning of August, and then two more solid swells will hit the region.

Periods of 18 to 21 seconds are on the charts and it looks like bigger waves will come with variable winds and possibly a few days of the north wind, making Bank vaults offer some big days.

In the long-term forecast, it’s possible to see more storms occurring in the southern Indian Ocean, so more swells will probably come later.

Many specialized websites show more stability in the La Niña and El Niño phenomenon during the second half of the year, with less extreme weather conditions.

Great news for us surfers!
