Septic Systems
We use high-quality septic tanks in all of our facilities to prevent soil contamination and ensure a healthy environment for both our guests and the surrounding nature.
Biorock Coral Restoration Program
We’re proud to have launched the Mentawais’ first coral restoration project in partnership with @biorockindonesia and @giliecotrust. Our guests can snorkel at the installations in front of the restaurant and even plant their own coral babies. The locals have embraced the system as it attracts new species, and it also helps reduce coastal erosion in our bay.
Plastic Reduction Initiative
To minimize plastic waste, we’ve implemented a zero-single-use-plastic policy. We source our supplies from Padang, but instead of transporting food in plastic packaging, we use reusable containers to bring goods to the island.
Solar Power
In our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint, we’ve installed solar panels and batteries to meet all of our electricity needs. This marks a significant step toward sustainability, ensuring 24-hour electricity with minimal environmental impact.
Rainforest Restoration
We’re actively working to restore the natural rainforest on our land by cutting down the coconut trees that were previously planted by locals. Although they may seem beautiful, coconuts are invasive, and removing them allows the native rainforest to thrive once again. When we first arrived 13 years ago, it was rare to see a bird in the area—but now, you can enjoy the sounds of local wildlife, a true testament to our efforts.
