The Mentawai Islands
The Mentawai Islands consist of more than seventy islands and islets, situated in the Indian Ocean, about 150 kilometers off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. These islands are separated from Sumatra by the Mentawai Strait, offering some of the most pristine and untouched environments in the world.
Siberut, the largest island at 4,030 km², is the heart of the Mentawai Archipelago. The other major islands include Sipura, North Pagai (Pagai Utara), and South Pagai (Pagai Selatan). The indigenous people of the islands are known as the Mentawaians, with a rich cultural heritage that has been preserved over centuries.
In recent years, the Mentawai Islands have become one of the most sought-after surfing destinations globally, attracting surfers from around the world to its world-class waves.
The Trip
Your journey begins around 7:00 AM on the first day of your scheduled trip. Upon arrival in Padang (Sumatra) the day before your scheduled departure, you will spend the night in the city. One of our representatives will meet you at the airport and escort you to the hotel where you’ll stay overnight, ensuring a smooth and comfortable start to your adventure.
The next morning, around 6:00 AM, our representative will pick you up and take you to the Mentawai fast boat for your journey from Padang to the Resort. The trip typically takes between 3 to 7 hours, depending on the fast boat option and weather conditions. On your return, you should usually arrive back in Padang around 6:00 PM on the last day of your scheduled trip. Please ensure that you book your outbound flight from Padang for after 9:00 PM. In some cases, you may need to spend an additional night in Padang and take your flight the following day.
For guests with connecting international flights, please pay extra attention to your flight schedules and dates. If you are flying from Jakarta, we recommend booking your international flight for the following day or after 11:00 PM on the day of your return.
We’ve organized our schedule to allow guests to surf on both the first and last days of their trip, ensuring that you make the most of your time at Hidden Bay Resort. This is another advantage we offer, maximizing your surfing experience while minimizing any downtime.
Transfers
USD 350 per person
There are two options for your transfer:
- Private Direct Fast: A more comfortable and faster option with fixed dates, taking you directly to the Playground area.
- Public Fast: Departs on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, perfect for those needing custom dates.
Itinerary:
- Departure: The boat departs Padang early in the morning (around 07:00 AM) on the first day of your trip, allowing guests to arrive at the resort by 3:00 PM with the Public Fast, or 11:30 AM with the Direct Fast. This gives you time to settle in, enjoy a healthy meal, and go for your first surf session.
- Return: On the last day of your trip, the boat departs from the resort late in the morning, allowing one last surf session before heading back to Padang. You’ll arrive in Padang around 6:00 PM.
PLEASE NOTE:
All guests are required to stay overnight in the city of Padang on the first scheduled day of their trip. You must also book your flight to leave Padang after 21:00 hours on the last day of your trip.
