Surfing Accessories

Surf Gear Recommendations for the Mentawais:

    • Surfboards (2-4):
    • One shortboard for turns, ideal for smaller days.
    • One shortboard for barrels, with extra thickness for paddle power on medium to heavier days.
    • One medium board for barrels, with good thickness for paddling on bigger waves.
    • Note: In the Mentawais, you can surf bigger waves on shorter boards!\
  • Boardshorts (2-3)
  • Wax (3-5): Tropical warm water wax
  • Leashes (3-4):
    • One thin comp leash
    • Two regular 6’ leashes
    • One bigger and thicker 8’ leash
  • Long sleeve Lycra or 2 mm wetsuit
  • Fin Sets (4): Small, medium, and big wave fins; fins for both turns and barrels.
  • Fin Keys (2)
  • Wax Comb
  • Waterproof Sunscreen (lots of it)
  • Rash Guard (long or short)
  • Surf Hat (optional)
  • Helmet (optional)
  • Reef Booties (optional)
  • Ding Repair Kit/Sun Cure (optional, but strongly recommended)
